What is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal Disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. The sticky substance that forms on your teeth is called plaque and is made up of bacteria. This plaque grows and produces toxins or enzymes that damage the supportive structures surrounding your teeth. If the plaque is not removed on a regular basis it can harden to form calculus( tartar)which then can only be removed by a professional at a dental office. This condition can even affect the arteries of the heart. Treatment in our office, in most cases is non-surgical.
